Some gyms have mirrors on their gym shelves, and for a reason: people like to watch themselves lift weights. When you see someone looking intensely in the mirror, you do your best to stay out of the line of sight. 

While you’re sitting there scrolling through Instagram or Facebook, another device is busy. If you are actually exercising, take several devices at the same time. 

While some gyms forbid you to make any noise, many are good at making a bit of noise when you get up. To shout and shout loudly and continuously while someone electrifies a barbell is frowned upon because it is very distracting for other people who are doing sports. If you can talk while I’ve been watching people, you’re probably doing too much, even if your gym session is a lot of exercise. That said, it has always been good for me and my fitness, and it’s good for you too.

If you are working on two or more exercises that you are doing back and forth in a small circle, talk to them about what you are doing. 

Trust me when I say that it is absolutely essential to do things like this, but it can take a little longer if you only take one plate. If you do an exercise and destroy your equipment by dropping or breaking a dumbbell or bending a bar, you can do something wrong. 

I understand that a phone on the gym floor can be useful when you use it as a timer, track your workout or film training techniques. But please keep your fellow gym-goers safe and do not offend anyone by using mobile phones or other electronic devices in the gym.

If you are not familiar with weights or fitness equipment in general, you may be surprised to find that multi-gyms are intended for beginners and occasional users. Many fitness enthusiasts swear by the “new” weights, which means you already have access to the latest and best equipment and training techniques in weight training. This may seem obvious, but the institution wants you to always wear your shoes for legal and safety reasons. When entering the gym, please follow the rules on the walls and the instructions in the changing room. 

Now, this may be a vanity issue for many of you, but just watch your shape and pay attention. I enter my hunting and tracking mode as I approach a bank or anything else that someone might be using, looking for signs that a jack may have been in the area. That’s why I put my training record on the bench in case someone touches my stuff or something. 

With the exercise you begin to guess what exercises you could do, where your arms and dumbbells will be and where they will go. 

For something like a back squat, place a hockey board with a safety pin just below the hockey depth and place the bar on the pen without getting caught. The more weight you throw around, the more weights you lift and the harder it can be to push the bench to the side. If you throw your bar backwards over the shoulder of the squat, it will tend to bounce off the pins, bend down and ruin it for you.
